Goals for June ✨
(I totally forgot to post this at the start of the month, so we're already a couple of weeks in but there's still time left!)
How are we nearly halfway through 2025 already?!
I'm unfortunately still unemployed. I've had a few job offers but they've fallen through. The job market is awful. I saw a job earlier for a "trainee HR assistant" that required 3-5 years experience working in HR - so not really "trainee" or "assistant", and it paid £25000 a year. I have had a few job offers, but they've fallen through. I have an interview scheduled for the 26th, and I'm hopeful I can get it as it's a job I've done in the past.
It would be nice to find a job in June, but as long as I send lots of applications off, I can't do much more. Living in a low-cost-of-living city is nice in some ways, but the lack of job opportunities is not very nice to deal with.
I have been volunteering for the National Archives, doing online transcription of old Metropolitan Police records. I'm finding it so interesting, and it's helped me narrow down my career options. In June, I'd like to do at least 20 hours of volunteering. Whilst I'm not working, I might as well make the most of being able to volunteer more.
I'd like to read five books this month. I'll still be a bit behind my overall goal for the year, but there's still time to catch up. I wrote about my June hopefuls here. I've got a few that I'm almost finished with so I am confident I can do a lot of reading this month.
Next, I want to walk more. I've not been moving enough and I'm starting to feel it. Walking is my favourite form of exercise. I have a treadmill that I don't use, but I want to start going for evening walks again. In summer, I hate going outside during the day. But going for a walk at 9pm, when it's just about to get dark? Perfect. I'd like to average out at ten thousand steps every day, but as long as I'm moving every day that's fine by me. I used to be really good at getting at least ten thousand steps a day, and I felt a lot more fit and healthy. I feel like I'm getting a bit bored of going on the same walks every day. I used to get the bus or train somewhere and go for a walk, but it's just too expensive at the moment. Even just a couple of stops on a bus is now £3, let alone getting a bit further out.
My final focus for the month is writing. I love to write. I don't think I'm necessarily any good at it, but I don't think we have to be good at our hobbies to deserve them. I've got an idea for a novel, which will almost certainly never be published, but I think it will be fun to write. I haven't tried to write a full novel since I was seventeen, and I never got past the first few chapters, so I will see where we are in a few months time. I'd like to write blog posts more, too.
Part of setting goals is being realistic, and there's so much I want to do. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do. I've already missed out on so much. But I can't catch up on several years of life experiences in thirty days, so some goals will come later.
I will reflect on this post at the start of July, and see how the month went.
